The Biggest Reason Would-Be EBay Money Makers Fail
Guest Author If you study the histories of a random group of eBay sellers, all struggling to make money the best way they know how, you’ll find that some are making millions while others make hundreds of thousands. However, far more end up in the red, disillusioned with the idea of making honest money on eBay.
Take a closer look at all the sellers on eBay, both successful and otherwise, and you’ll discover a few recurring patterns. One set of patterns for those who have succeeded, and an entirely different set for those who have failed. A psychologist could undoubtedly have a field day with it. There’s a common saying in the business world that basically says success is obtained by doing the things that the unsuccessful aren’t willing to do. And that is pretty much what separates successful entrepreneurs from the rest.
There are some out there that I like to call “bouncers,” because they bounce from one money-making scheme to another, all the while stating an excuse from their big bag of excuses for why they couldn’t make every previous scheme they participated in work. They half-heartedly try each out before deciding that they can’t do it, then jumping ship for the next scheme.
I was helping out a new eBay seller many years ago. He was working with an eBay drop shipper as his product source, but told me he couldn’t find any products worth selling. I accessed his drop shipper’s inventory and did some research, finding several products that were doing quite well on eBay.
After giving him an example, he promptly replied, “I can’t sell that!” Actually, he could. He just wouldn’t. No wonder he wasn’t experiencing success.
I’ve worked closely with one of Utah’s top entrepreneurs. He’s passionate about his business, but more important, he’s one of the hardest working entrepreneurs I’ve ever met. As a result, his business thrives while his competitors wallow. Looking for easy? Then you’re looking for failure.
eBay has acted as the catalyst for many a hard-working entrepreneur. Want that same success? Then commit to doing the work that is required for success.
