eBay Selling – Why Start an eBay Business?

September 13th, 2007 by Guest Author

Every single day people just like you and I are making a very lucrative living selling on ebay. There are many reasons why you should start an ebay business of your own.

The first and foremost reason might be that you will be able to run the business entirely from your home. You will not need to commute to a 9 to 5 job that you don’t like in the first place, spend money on gas to get back and forth to work, spend money on work clothes, be able to stay at home with your children– no more expensive day care, you can even work in your P.J.s (nobody will know).

The second reason is that you can start this business with little or no money. All you need to get started is a computer, an internet connection, an open mind, and a camera to take pictures of the product you plan to sell. If you already have these items at home, you are halfway there.

Now comes the work part. You will first need to go to the ebay site and familiarize yourself with the way they do business. You need to read through all of the pages they offer with tips for the entrepreneur. Next you will check out their auctions to see which items are selling at this time. Once you establish what is selling well, you need to find a product in this category to sell. This item should be something you would buy yourself when shopping on ebay.

You have found a product you really like, and now it is time to list it on ebay and write a convincing sales pitch that will catch the eye of the customer. This should be easy since you have chosen a product you can get excited about. You should write the sales pitch in a way that would make you want to buy the product if you were the buyer. You know what catches your eye, and those who would buy the type of product you offer will be no different. You may want to make your title stand out by capitalizing it and making it bold. Do not use fancy lettering or flashing banners, this will only make your ad copy look cheap and turn away customers.

Make sure your shipping and handling costs are kept down. You should also offer an overnight shipping option for the customer who wants merchandise right away. You will also need to take care that you are honest in all of your dealings and will answer all emails from customers promptly. There will always be a few customers who are never satisfied so your best bet would be to offer a no-questions-asked, 30 day return policy. By doing these things you will hopefully get plenty of positive feedback. This will show the customer that you are trustworthy and make them comfortable with purchasing from you. Beware of negative feedback, if your business receives too much you will find that nobody will buy from you and your business will fail. Keep the customer happy.

When starting an ebay business, you will either need to purchase products outright and keep an inventory, or find a trustworthy wholesale dropshipper who will allow you to wait until an item is sold before you purchase it from them. They will send your product to the customer and include your name and address on the package. Be sure to check all dropshippers out with the Better Business Bureau before you start a relationship with them.

There are many reasons why you should start an ebay business. Just make sure you consider your options carefully before you take the plunge.
