Start Your First eBay Account
Guest Author Since eBay has subsidiary sites in a lot of countries, I would suggest that you initially join an eBay site in your resident country. For instance, I reside in the UK so I would join bay.co.uk, Australians would join ebay.com.au/, and Americans would join eBay.com.
I will walk you through the registration process on eBay.com which is the United States eBay platform site. So, locate eBay.com in your web browser and you will notice a plethora of menu options at the top of the page to the right (Buy, Sell, My eBay, etc.). For right now, these options are to be ignored.
On the right hand side of the top of the page you will notice a Sign in or Registration tab. This is where we will first initiate our eBay journey.
Please fill in the form including name, address, telephone number, and any other requested information. It is important that the fields are filled in as accurately as possible.
The next section will request that you make up your eBay user ID and a password so you can come back later on and get into the site as well as also show your sales listing, feedback and various eBay pages. Pick out an eBay user ID and password that you like. If you are considering having your own Internet business or you desire to connect to an offline business then your eBay ID should be something like your offline business, such as abctextiles123 might become your user id for ABC textiles. This is related to the name of your offline business.
Of course, if you are only using this site for your personal hobby or entertainment any easy to remember ID will do. Please ensure that you are only utilizing names that are non-offensive and respectful. If you do plan on incorporating your hobby into a business venture eventually, please keep this in mind. I mean, how many people will take PrincessFiona99 seriously? So, common sense and a little foresight are integral to the success of any fledgling eBay endeavor.
Next, a password is to be chosen for your eBay account. Always make sure to keep these passwords confidential and change the password often to avoid any criminal attempts at hacking your account. Typically a strong password is between eight and fifteen letter/number combinations. That only you would find easy to remember. Common sense and eternal vigilance will keep your account and personal information safe from prying eyes.
The final step is to choose a secret question, to which you will know the answer without thought. In the event you forget your password, this will enable e-Bay to verify your identity and provide your password to you. Choose a question to which the answer will never change, for example the name of your first pet.
